LIONS ROAR PAST MONARCHS: The @jserra.softball team seized its’ first Trinity League win of the season in dominant fashion on Tuesday, as the Lions overwhelmed the Mater Dei Monarchs by a score of 10-1 at the Fountain Valley Sports Park in Fountain Valley.
The Lions are now 16-6 overall on the season.
JSerra jumped out into the lead in the second inning.
A leadoff single to right by senior Zena Edwards was followed by a double to the wall in left center from freshman Magenta De Arte to put runners at second and third base.
Junior Angie Jimenez put the Lions on the board with a sharp RBI single to center field to score Edwards.
Sophomore Leah Arrey followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score De Arte to make it 2-0.
The Lions broke the game open in the top of the third inning.
Sophomore Annabel Raftery started the rally by blasting a deep shot over the fence in center field for her eighth home run of the season.
Later in the inning, Edwards added a two-run single and Arrey added a two-run double, before Raftery capped the six-run frame with an RBI single to increase the Lions Lead to 8-0.
De Arte added an RBI groundout in the fourth inning and an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning for the Lions final runs.
Senior Liliana Escobar allowed one run on two hits in five innings, while striking out 10 batters.
Sophomore Madeline Capek pitched two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three.
