TIMBERWOLVES EDGE LIONS: The @jserrahoops Boys Basketball team put forth a valiant effort in their final game of the Pro Image Sports Holiday Classic on Saturday, but the Lions were defeated by Lake City High of Idaho 66-63 at Owyhee High School in Meridian, Idaho.
The Lions are now 6-5 overall.
It was a game of runs in the first half.
Lake City opened the game with 10-0 spurt, but the Lions responded with a 16-4 burst bridging the first and second quarters to take their first lead of the game.
The Timberwolves answered back with a 16-7 surge to close the second period, taking a 30-23 lead into the halftime locker room.
Senior Jaden Bailes, who made three shots from long range in the first half, connected on three from behind the arc in the third period, helping the Lions pull to within 47-44 heading into the final period.
Junior Earl Bryson provided a huge lift in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his 14 second half points, as JSerra trailed by just a point with under 10 seconds remaining in the game.
The Timberwolves converted two free throws to extend the lead to three, setting up the Lions` final possession.
Bailes had a final shot attempt to tie the game with two seconds left, but despite contact at the top of his shooting motion, no foul was called and the shot came up short to end the game.
Bailes finished with a game-high 28 points, hitting on 8-of-15 from the field, including 7-of-13 from behind the three point line and five assists.
Junior Davis Dubost and sophomore Ryan Doane each collected a team-high eight rebounds.
