The undefeated @jserra_boys_water_polo team enjoyed a victorious home opener on Tuesday, as the Lions doubled up the Loyola Cubs by a score of 12-6 at JSerra Catholic High School.
The Lions improve to 4-0 on the season.
Junior Lars Knepper put the Lions ahead 1-0 with his first goal of the game with 5:23 in the first period.
The Cubs tied the game at 1-1 at the 3:39 mark of the period, but Knepper converted a five-meter goal 16 seconds later to re-capture the lead for the Lions.
Junior Ronan Keane produced his lone goal of the contest off an assist from junior Cal Ulicny to give JSerra a 3-1 advantage by the end of the opening period.
Sophomore William Anderson gave the Lions a 4-1 lead early in the second period before Knepper completed his first half hat trick with 1:59 remaining in the half to boost the Lions lead to 5-1.
Sophomore Sasha Bjelica tallied the first of his two goals with 36 seconds remaining in the half to help stake JSerra to a 6-2 halftime lead.
Loyola narrowed the margin to 6-4 with 2:53 remaining in the third period.
Bjelica’s second goal of the game at the 1:56 mark of the third period pushed the JSerra’s lead to 7-4.
Junior Andrew Schneider helped the Lions put the contest away with two 6-on-5 goals at the end of the third period and less than two minutes into the fourth period, off assists from Bjelica and Knepper respectively.
Schneider completed his hat trick with his third goal of the half with 5:45 remaining to increase the Lions advantage to 10-4.
Junior Dylan Park produced the goal of the game with 2:19 remaining, whipping a no-look shot that found the back of the cage off an assist by sophomore Christopher Koo.
Senior Daniel Constandse added the final tally of the game for the Lions with a long-distance goal with 1:30 left.
Junior goalie Stefan Vukojevic was stout in goal for JSerra, producing eight saves.
