Congrats to Tessa Russell of the @jserra.girlsflagfootball team, who has been selected as the Orange County Girls Athlete of the Week by the Orange County Register.

The Register’s Dan Albano had this to say about Russell’s performance last week during the team’s championship run at the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown:

“Russell had five catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and she broke up a pass, to lead the Lions past Newport Harbor 21-6 in the final of the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown. The wide receiver/safety finished the two-day event with 25 receptions for 394 yards and four touchdowns, and two interceptions on defense. She was selected tournament MVP.”

The @jserra.girlsgolf team fell to the Santa Margarita Eagles by a score of 181-198 in a Trinity League match on Tuesday at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course in Mission Viejo.

Junior Samantha Robles shot a team-leading score of 37 for the Lions, which included birdies on the par-4 first hole and the par-3 fourth hole.

Sophomore Charlotte Smith and senior Christine Walker each tallied scores of 38 for their respective rounds.

Smith produced back-to-back birdies on the par-5 third hole and the par-3 fourth hole.

Walker turned in birdies on both the par-3 fourth hole and the par-3 eighth hole.

Freshman Reagan Diprima shot a 41, achieving birdie of the par-4 ninth hole.

Sophomore Kerington Muro shot a 44 for her round.
