DRAMATIC RALLIES FUEL LIONS SWEEP OVER BUCHANAN: The @jserra.baseball team produced a thrilling home-opener on Saturday, as the Lions rallied in both games of a nonleague doubleheader to sweep the visiting Buchanan Bears at JSerra Catholic High School.

The Lions produced a 7-4 comeback triumph in the first game of the day.

After Buchanan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, senior Blake Bowen put the Lions ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning with a towering two-run homerun to left field.

The Bears tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but Bowen struck again in the bottom of the inning, as he slapped a two-out RBI single to left field to put the Lions back in front.

Buchanan scored twice in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead at 4-3.

But the Lions responded again in the bottom of the inning.

Senior Brise Boop scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4-4.

Junior Ryder Fredriksen’s RBI double to left put the Lions ahead and junior Zac Veronda added insurance with a two-run single for the Lions’ final runs.

JSerra supplied an even more spectacular comeback triumph in the second game.

Buchanan led 6-0 in the fifth inning, before the Lions roared back.

Freshman Joey Koenig and Bowen each hit solo homeruns, and Koening added an RBI double to trim the deficit to 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

JSerra loaded the bases with no outs before Bowen grounded an RBI single to left field to bring the Lions to within 6-4.

Boop walked with the bases loaded to pull JSerra to within a run before junior Ayden Coleman completed the comeback by slashing a two-run single to left field for the Lions’ walk-off 7-6 victory.

LIONS WIN PRESTIGIOUS TITLE IN FRESNO: The @jserra.boys_tennis tteam officially made this weekend’s journey to the Central Valley a championship-winning road trip on Saturday, as the Lions claimed the Division 1 title at the California Tennis Classic at Clovis North High School in Fresno.

JSerra opened Saturday’s competition by claiming a 5-1 victory over Brophy College Prep of Arizona in the semifinals round.

The Lions’ pathway to victory was aided by sweeping doubles action.

Senior Connor Faul and junior Kayden Kral produced wins of 6-1 and 6-1, seniors Cade Faul and Jacob LeBrun earned victories of 6-0 and 6-2, and senior HB Warner and freshman Aidan Andren claimed dual wins of 6-1 and 6-1.

Junior Michael Geffre produced a stirring singles’ victory, as he rallied for a three-set triumph by scores of 1-6, 6-3, and 10-8.

Sophomore Rafael Shaikh was also victorious in singles action with wins of 6-0 and 6-2.

JSerra faced off against Bellarmine Prep of San Jose for the Division 1 crown.

Connor and Cade Faul teamed up for wins of 7-6 and 6-1, while Warner and Andren claimed victories of 6-0 and 6-2.

Shaikh came through with a triumph of 6-1 and 6-2 in singles action, setting up junior Kayden Kral with the opportunity to bring home the tournament title.

Kral dropped the opening set 4-6 before winning the second set 7-5 to set-up a third set tiebreaker.

Kral emphatically brought the tournament title home for the Lions, winning the tiebreaker set 10-0 to give JSerra a 4-2 win.
