LIONS MAKE O.C HISTORY AT ARCADIA INVITATIONAL: Senior Mireya Hardman, freshman Maya Pawlowicz, senior Chloe Elbaz, and junior Reese Holley of the @jserra.txfc girls team etched their names into 4x800m relay lore on Friday by running to a U.S.-leading and Orange County all-time record time of 8:50.32 on the opening day of the 58th annual Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High School.

Hardman kicked started the record-setting run in the featured invitational race with an two-lap leg of 2:15.23 before handing off the baton to Pawlowicz, who navigated her split in 2:13.52 to propel the Lions into second place.

Pawlowicz tunerd the stick over to Elbaz, who blazed to an opening lap of 59.93 to push the Lions into the lead and finished her split in 2:13.00 before turning the baton over to Holley for the anchor.

Holley turned in a phenomenal 2:08.67 effort in her closing segment, holding off the determined challenge of the nation’s top 800m runner (Braelyn Combe of Santiago High School of Corona) to stamp O.C. history and set a new invitational record for the Lions.

Seniors J.P. DeSantos, Luke Friedl, Jack Burnett, and Alden Morales turned in a high-quality showing in the Boys Invitational 4x1600m race.

Santos navigated his two-lap segment in 1:56.12, before handing the baton to Friedl, who turned in an 800m navigation of 1:54.83.

Burnett surged to a 1:53.91 effort in his leg, which saw him move the Lions into third place before handing the stick to Morales, who clocked a 1:53.27 split to earn a third-place overall finish of 7:38.13 for the Lions.

JSerra’s effort is the fastest time in the state and the third fastest in the country this season.

It is also the second-best time performance in school history, trailing only last year’s state championship winning clocking of 7:33.43 set by Burnett, Morales, and former standouts Bradley Arrey and Taye Newman.

Sophomore Kaia Streadbeck, freshman Brooklyn Tennant, sophomore Talia Whitten, and freshman Sierra Harden joined forces to record a time of 20:55.88 (the state’s sixth fastest time this season) in the Girls Invitational 4x1600m race.

LIONS DEFEAT EAGLES: The @jserralionslax Boys Lacrosse team earned a split of its’ two-game nonleague road trip in Colorado, as the Lions defeated the Dakota Ridge Eagles by a score of 9-7 on Friday at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colorado.

Senior Luke Bittner helped spark the Lions’ to the victory, as he scored three goals.

JSerra improves to 9-4 on the season and will return to Trinity League play on Tuesday, when the Lions host the Orange Lutheran Lancers at JSerra Catholic High School.

That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

FRIARS BEAT LIONS: The @jserra.boysvolleyball team fell to the Servite Friars 17-25, 21-25, 16-25 in a Trinity League encounter on Friday at JSerra Catholic High School.

Senior Dylan Varenchik led the Lions with seven kills, while fellow senior Darren Chi added six kills and a team-high 16 digs.

Senior Will Alvarez had a team-leading 22 assists.

Freshman Jack Buffington recorded all three of the team’s aces in the second set while also accumulating 13 digs.

JSerra will be back in Trinity League action on Monday, when the Lions visit St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower to battle the Braves.

Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

LATE RALLY LIFTS GRIZZLIES PAST LIONS: The @jserra.baseball team was defeated in the finale of Southern Section Bracket play at the 2026 Boras Baseball Classic on Friday, as the Los Osos Grizzlies rallied for a 4-3 victory at JSerra Catholic High School.

The two teams engaged in a scoreless battle until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Lions sophomore Logan Osmundson was hit by a pitch to start the frame.

Sophomore Owen Mescall sacrificed senior pitch runner Matthew Golden to second base and junior Zac Veronda moved him to third with a ground out to second base.

Freshman Joey Koenig put the Lions ahead 1-0 when he smacked a first pitch RBI single to right field to plate Golden.

Senior Brise Boop increased the Lions’ advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he blasted a deep line drive over the wall in left center field for a two-run homerun, his second homerun in as many days and his third of the season.

But the Grizzlies rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning, the final three coming on a homerun with two outs.

The Lions put the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Grizzlies closed out the victory.

JSerra is now 7-12 overall and will host Orange Lutheran to kick off a three-game Trinity League series beginning on Tuesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
