LATE SURGE LEADS LIONS PAST WOLVERINES: The @jserra.softball team continued its` winning ways on Tuesday, as the Lions defeated the Aliso Niguel Wolverines by a score of 8-2 in a nonleague game at JSerra Catholic High School.
The Lions, the top-ranked team in Orange County, improved to 12-1 on the season.
JSerra grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Junior Anneke Lukowski (pitch running for sophomore Annabel Raftery after a leadoff walk), stole second and was sacrificed to third base by sophomore Leah Arrey.
Two batters later, Lukowski scored with a steal of home plate.
The Wolverines tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, and the game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Junior Brooklyn Lamb led off the inning with double to the wall in center field, and two pitches later, senior Zena Edwards blasted a line drive that sailed over the wall in right center field for her third home run of the season to give the Lions a 3-1 lead.
JSerra added to the lead later in the inning.
Freshman Ava Born slapped an RBI single to center field to score sophomore Ava Van Heerde to make it 4-1.
An RBI walk to Raftery brought home junior Angie Jimenez and was followed by an RBI sacrifice fly by Arrey to plate senior Ava Geoghegan to increase the lead to 6-1.
Freshman Magenta De Arte capped the rally with a two-run double to left field to score Born and Lukowski.
Junior pitcher Abby Ford produced a complete game victory for the Lions in the circle, allowing one earned run, while striking out nine.
