DOLPHINS RALLY PAST LIONS: The @jserra.boysvolleyball team fought the visiting Dana Hills Dolphins tough in a nonleague battle on Thursday, but the Dolphins rallied past the Lions 11-25, 29-27, 25-18, 25-23 at JSerra Catholic High School.
JSerra claimed 15 of the first 19 points in the opening set to propel them to an early match lead.
The Lions held a 22-18 lead in the second set, but the Dolphins battled back, holding off four Lions` set point opportunities to tie the match.
The two teams were deadlocked at 17-17 in the third set, but the Dolphins claimed eight of the next nine points to grab the match lead.
An exciting back-and-fourth struggle in the fourth set saw the Lions forge a 19-17 advantage, but once again, the Dolphins answered with a strong set closing run to earn a two-point set triumph and seal the match victory.
Senior Darren Chi spearheaded the Lions attack with a team-high 13 kills, three blocks, and 15 digs.
Seniors Hunter Frates and Dylan Varenchik each added eight kills, with Varenchik tying Chi for team high honors in blocks.
Junior Kevin O’Hara supplied six kills.
Junior Dylan Brigulio recorded all five of the team’s aces in the match, including four straight in the second set.
