LIONS BEGIN ROAD TO STATE: The @jserra.tfxc teams kicked off the postseason in strong fashion at the CIF-SS Division 3 Preliminaries on Saturday at Yorba Linda High School.
The 4x100m relay team of sophomore Morgan Woolforde, senior Maya Woolforde, junior Nylah Key, and freshman Tessa Russell set a new school record by winning Heat 1 in 48.60.
Russell (45.42) also won Heat 4 of the 300m hurdles, with Morgan Woolforde (46.03) winning Heat 1.
Maya Woolforde (56.91) advanced in the 400m.
Key leaped 18 feet, 1 inch in the long jump to reach the finals.
Junior Reese Holley (4:55.69) was the top overall qualifier in the 1600m.
Freshman Maya Pawlowicz (4:59.37) and sophomore Kaia Streadbeck (Heat 1 victory in 5:00.65) also advanced.
Holley (2:12.67) seized Heat 3 of the 800m with senior Chloe Elbaz winning Heat 2 in 2:14.39.
Pawlowicz (2:14.85) and senior Mireya Hardman (2:15.71) also grabbed finals berths.
Freshman Brooklyn Tennant (11:02.09) advanced in the 3200m.
Pawlowicz, Holley, Streadbeck, and junior Hayden Kroger won Heat 2 of the 4x800m relay (9:47.36) to advance.
Hardman, Elbaz, Morgan and Maya Woolforde produced a qualifying-best 3:54.04 in the 4x400m relay.
Junior Adi Rusin, along with seniors Helena Rueter and Jayden McDermott, each cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to secure finals berths.
Senior Molly Hogan and freshman Avery Holley each cleared 5 feet in the high jump to advance.
Junior Kai Beary recorded marks of 115 feet, 2 inches in the discus and 35 feet, 6 inches in the shot put to head to the finals.
On the boys side, a trio of Lions advanced to the 800m finals.
Senior Jack Burnett won Heat 2 in a time of 1:54.35.
Senior Luke Friedl recorded a time of 1:55.17 in Heat 1, while fellow senior Alden Morales (1:55.50) won Heat 3.
Friedl (4:19.23) also advanced to the 1600m finals.
Senior Zacarias Nickerson, junior Will Fredericksen, sophomore Sam Fredericksen, and junior Josiah Blackwell advanced to the 4x100m relay finals with a Heat 1 win in 41.92.
Burnett, Morales, Friedl, and senior J.P. De Santos recorded a 7:59.74 Heat 2 win in the 4x800m relay earn a finals berth.
