LIONS CARVE PATH TO STATE MEET: It was a stellar day of lifetime bests and state qualifying performances for athletes of both the @jserra.tfxc Girls and Boys Track and Field teams on Saturday at the CIF-SS Masters Meet at Moorpark High School in Moorpark.
The duo of senior Helena Reuter and junior Adi Rusin skied to impressive heights in the pole vault.
Reuter produced first attempt clearances at 11 feet, 2 inches, 11 feet, 8 inches, and 12 feet, 2 inches to earn a state meet berth.
Reuter then pushed the bar up to a lifetime best 12 feet, 8 inches and successful scaled the height on her first attempt to improve her school record and tie for third highest clearance in the state this season.
After first attempt clearances at 10 feet, 8 inches, 11 feet, 2 inches, and 11 feet, 8 inches, Rusin propelled herself over the bar on her first attempt at the automatic state qualifying height (and lifetime best) of 12 feet, 2 inches to finish tied for third.
Junior Reese Holley highlighted the action for the Lions on the track with an impressive new personal best race effort in the 1600m, as she stepped across the finish line in a second place time of 4:45.23.
Holley’s clocking is the fastest among Orange County runners this season to date and the third fastest time in the state.
Freshman Maya Pawlowicz, the state’s fastest freshman harrier, churned out new lifetime best of 4:50.52 to qualify for the state meet.
Holley (2:09.37) also advanced to state in the 800m, along with senior Chloe Elbaz (2:11.53).
Holley, Elbaz, Pawlowicz, and sophomore Kaia Streadbeck joined forces to lead the Lions (9:14.58) to the state meet in the 4x800m relay, as the quartet finished fourth.
Senior Alden Morales enjoyed the best performance of the field in the Boys 800m, as his final racing strides brought him across the finish line in a victorious time of 1:51.93.
Later, Morales teamed with fellow seniors J.P. DeSantos, Luke Friedl, and Jack Burnett to clock a second-place effort of 7:41.38 in the 4x800m relay and earn a state berth.
Friedl secured the final state qualifying spot in the 1600m with a lifetime best of 4:11.72.
