LIONS POWER PAST OAKS CHRISTIAN: The @jserra.softball team used the long ball to fuel a victorious road performance on Saturday, as the Lions defeated Oaks Christian 6-1 in a nonleague game at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village.
JSerra is now 11-1 overall on the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Lions jumped ahead in the top of the third inning.
Senior Ava Geoghegan led off the frame with a walk and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by freshman Ava Born.
Sophomore Annabel Raftery followed by hitting a searing line drive shot well over the fence in center field to give JSerra a 2-0 lead.
Oaks Christian cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third inning.
Raftery struck again with another powerful swing in the fifth inning.
On the first pitch inning, she blasted another booming shot deep over the wall in center field for her second home run of the game and fourth of the season.
Two batters later, junior Brooklyn Lamb connected on a soaring blast over the fence in right center field for her first home run of the season.
Oaks Christian threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning by loading the bases with no outs.
But junior Abby Ford escaped the jam without allowing a run.
Freshman Magenta De Arte capped the Lions’ power show in the top of the seventh inning when she launched a deep drive over the wall in right center for a two-run home run.
Senior Liliana Escobar started in the circle and pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and two hits, while striking out five.
Ford allowed three hits in four scoreless innings, striking out four, to earn the victory.
