LIONS TAKE CENTER STAGE: The @jserra.tfxc Girls and Boys Track and Field teams saw some noteworthy individual efforts on Saturday in action at both the Redondo Track Festival and the Irvine Invitational.
Senior Chloe Elbaz produced the highest individual finish of the day for the Lions in the headline invitational heat of the 800m at the Redondo Track Festival at Redondo Union High School.
Elbaz was third entering the bell-lap and briefly seized a small lead with less than 250 meters to go before eventually placing second in a time of 2:14.13.
Senior Mireya Hardman (2:22.15) was a top 20 finisher overall amongst 89 runners that competed across five heats.
Junior Reese Holley was involved in a tight battle in the spotlight heat of the invitational 1600m race that saw four runners clock sub-5:00 minute performances.
Holley surged into the lead on the second lap and held the advantage through nearly the halfway point of the bell lap before her final racing strides brought her across the finish line in third place with a time of 4:56.71.
Freshman Maya Pawlowicz clocked a heat-winning time of 5:01.45, the fifth fastest time overall amongst all 1600m runners across all five heats and the best among all freshman harriers.
Senior Maya Woolforde registered a time of 56.71 in the 400m, finishing fifth in the spotlight heat and eighth overall amongst all one-lap competitors.
Woolforde, Elbaz, Hardman, and sophomore Morgan Woolforde joined forces to produce a time of 3:57.61 and a fifth-place effort in the 4x400m relay.
One day after setting a new school record in the 4x100m relay, the team of junior Will Fredericksen, junior Josiah Blackwell, sophomore Sam Fredericksen, and senior Zacarias Nickerson recorded a time of 42.13 to place third in their heat and 10th overall amongst 44 relay teams.
Junior Adi Rusin soared to victory in the pole vault competition at the Irvine Invitational at Irvine High School.
Rusin sealed her individual triumph with a second attempt clearance of 11 feet, 6 inches.
