LIONS RUN PAST FIELD AT PR CITY INVITATIONAL
The JSerra Girls Cross Country team opened its’ season in dominant fashion, as the Lions won their season opening race at the PR City Invitational at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco.
Junior Reese Holley fronted the triumphant team performance in the Girls Elite Race, as she positioned herself into second place early and held that effort throughout before striding across the finish line in 16:59.2.
Sophomore Kaia Streadbeck surged up four places in the final mile and crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 17:10.8.
The Lions received stellar performances from a pair of newcomers making their racing debuts.
Freshman Maya Pawlowicz was in sixth place entering the last mile, but moved up two spots and stepped across the finish line in fourth place with a time of 17:12.9.
Fellow freshman Brooklyn Tennant was also a top-10 performer, as she placed seventh in 17:20.8.
Senior Chloe Elbaz was the team’s final scorer, finishing in 12th place with a time of 17:37.2.
JSerra totaled 25 points, easily outpacing runner-up Santiago/Corona, who finished with 52 points.
It was also a strong start to the season for the Boys Cross Country team.
The Lions had all five runners score in the top 40, as they tallied 104 points and placed third overall in the Elite Boys race.
Seniors Cole Carlson (14:45.8) and Luke Friedl (14:47.5) were the team’s top finishers in the race, followed by senior Jack Burnett (14:51.8), senior Alden Morales (15:00.4), and junior Zac O’Leary (15:14.2).
