The @jserra.girlsflagfootball team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 40-21 nonleague victory over the Woodbridge Warriors on Tuesday at JSerra Catholic High School.

Sophomore Sterling Flores snatched an interception on the second play of the game that set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Kate Meier to senior G.G. Szczuka.

JSerra found the end zone twice in the second quarter.

Meier connected with Flores on a one-yard scoring catch, while also finding sophomore Tessa Russell on a three-yard scoring reception, as the Lions claimed a 19-0 lead at halftime.

Meier tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to senior Kai Beary and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Flores in the third quarter to stake the Lions to a 33-7 advantage.

Szczuka helped put the finishing touches on the victory when she hauled in a perfect deep fade pass from Meier and raced into the end zone to complete a 72-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Meier finished 29-of-41 for 349 yards and five touchdown passes.

Szczuka had a team-high 103 yards receiving and a team-high four sacks.

Senior Kayla Fernandez produced an interception and led the Lions with seven flag pulls. ...

The @jserra_boys_water_polo team will officially hit the water to start the 2026 season with the county’s brightest spotlight.

JSerra has earned the county’s No. 1 ranking in the Orange County Register’s Boys Water Polo Preseason Rankings.
The Lions are coming off another strong campaign last fall, as they secured a CIF-SS Open Division postseason berth and hit the 20-win mark for the fifth straight season.

The Register’s Dan Albano had the following synopsis of the Lions:
“The Lions return several players from a squad that reached the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs last fall. A strong junior class includes Lars Knepper, Ronan Keane and Andrew Schneider. The latter two helped the U.S. place fourth at the recent under-16 World Championships in Croatia. San Marcos transfer Christian Yonker has joined the mix of juniors.”

JSerra is scheduled to begin its campaign on Thursday, August 27, when the Lions battle the La Jolla Vikings in La Jolla. ...
