Football Assistant Coach
Coach Hayden Nelson serves as the Freshman Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for JSerra Catholic High School Football, where he has been a dedicated member of the Lions coaching staff for the past four years.
Known for his commitment to player development and passion for the game, Nelson has steadily progressed through the program, bringing energy, leadership, and a strong offensive background to JSerra football.
Nelson began his coaching career at JSerra as the Assistant Freshman Quarterbacks Coach before being hired full-time in the equipment room while continuing to serve as a Freshman Offensive Assistant. He later expanded his role to Varsity Running Backs Coach, a position he held for two seasons while maintaining his full-time responsibilities. His experience across multiple levels of the program has given him a comprehensive understanding of player development from freshman to varsity competition.
In 2025, he was named Head Coach of the Freshman team, where he now leads the program while continuing his full-time role within the athletic department.
A former collegiate quarterback, Nelson brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching philosophy. He graduated from Monmouth College in 2019 after a highly successful four-year career as the starting quarterback for the Fighting Scots. During his time at Monmouth, the program compiled an impressive 35–7 record and captured two conference championships. Following his collegiate career, Nelson continued playing professionally overseas with the Frankfurt Pirates, where he helped lead the team to a German Football League (GFL) Championship.
Coach Nelson is passionate about mentoring young athletes and giving back to the game that has shaped his life. He is deeply committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the field, emphasizing character, accountability, leadership, and personal growth alongside competitive excellence.
