PACKARD STARS AS LIONS OPEN SEASON ON TRACK

The JSerra Boys and Girls Track and Field teams officially kicked off their seasons on Saturday, as athletes from both teams competed at both the Redondo Track Festival at Redondo Union High School and the Irvine Invitational at Irvine High.

Senior Anne Elise Packard highlighted the action for the Lions in the 800m race at Redondo Union High School.

Opening in a blistering 61.95 over the first 400m, Packard crossed the finish line in a time of 2:09.69 (currently the second fastest time in the state) and narrowly missed her personal best of 2:09.56, which she ran last April at the Arcadia Invitational.

Junior Chloe Elbaz was second in the race behind Packard, as she finished in a new lifetime best of 2:14.69, which is currently the eighth fastest time in school history.

Freshman Kaia Streadbeck impressed in her first 1600m at the high school level, as she finished third in a time of 5:03.93.

The Lions’ 4x400m relay team of junior Elbaz, Packard, Streadbeck, and junior Maya Woolforde placed third overall in a time of 3:55.25.

On the boys’ side of the competition, senior Bradley Arrey placed eighth in the 1600m race, as he stepped across the finish line in a time of 4:17.18.

A quartet of field athletes recorded solid opening performances at the Irvine Invitational.

Lions junior Helena Reuter produced a second attempt clearance at 11 feet, four inches and finished second in the competition.

Sophomore Adi Rusin cleared 10 feet, four inches and placed fifth.

Junior Molly Hogan scaled 5 feet in her final attempt in the high jump, which was good for a fifth place finish.

Sophomore Kai Beary finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 1 inch.
