LIONS CHARGE PAST AGOURA TO OPEN CIF-SS DIVISION 1 PLAYOFFS


It was a victorious beginning to the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs for the JSerra Girls Water Polo team, as the Lions knocked off the Agoura Chargers 13-8 in a first round game at JSerra Catholic High School.

The Lions are now 17-6 overall and will travel to Dos Pueblos High for the quarterfinal round on Wednesday.

Junior Sloane Paulson scored twice and junior Maddie Weston added a goal to stake the Lions to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Weston and Paulson opened the second period by finding the back of the net, as the Lions lead increased to 5-0.

After the Chargers tallied their first goal of the game, junior Kamryn McCord answered 20 seconds later with her first scoring strike.

Junior Gabby Elbaz tallied two goals in the final 2:36 of the half, sparking the Lions to a 8-3 halftime advantage.

Weston recorded a hat trick with 3:09 left in the third period, with McCord adding her second goal with 1:01 remaining to give JSerra a 10-4 lead heading into the final period.

Elbaz doubled her scoring effort in the fourth period, scoring twice in a 19-second span to give her four goals in the game.

Weston capped the Lions’ scoring and tied Elbaz for team-high goal scoring honors with her fourth with 2:30 remaining in the contest.

Senior goalie Lola Birdsall finished with six saves.
